Bristol MP plays host to Mozambique President

Bristol's link with Beira reinforced

Bristol South MP, Dawn Primarolo, hosted a lunch with President Armando Guebuza of Mozambique on Tuesday, prior to the delegation's meeting with the Prime Minister.

Democracy was the theme of the lunch, but Dawn was also keen to help cement the close ties that have built up between Bristol and Mozambique through the Bristol Link with Beira, Mozambique's second city.

Speaking afterwards, Dawn said: "Mozambique has made enormous strides in recent years in tackling poverty and developing its economy, but of course much remains to be done. I am proud not only that our Labour Government is committed to supporting them through all this, I am also delighted, as a Bristol MP, at the contribution Bristol is making to the development of Beira. Having met representatives of the Bristol Link with Beira earlier in the week too, I am sure that President Guebuza will return home with an appreciation of our city's commitment to promote a strong bond between our two countries".
