Policies for a fighting fit Bristol South

MP meeting to examine solutions

Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, is urging local community organisations to join her in finding new ways of improving health. This Friday, 5 July, Ms Primarolo is organising a forum to look at policies for the future.

Speaking today, Dawn said: "This forum is a fantastic opportunity for me to engage the local community in the key decisions for our future. I want to draw on their huge wealth of knowledge and experience as we find ways of meeting some of our biggest challenges".

Poor health is a particular challenge in Bristol South, with heart disease and lung cancer the biggest killers, and many other conditions seriously affecting the quality of life of some residents.

"Although I fully recognise how far we have to go, I am confident that we are making progress", Dawn continued. "Extra funding from the Budget has put the NHS on a sustainable long-term footing, while Labour's reforms will make sure this boost secures the results we all want to see. However, we also realise that, if we're really going to make people healthier, we need to look beyond the NHS. That's why tackling child poverty is so important to the Government. And why I want to work closely with local community organisations".

The forum will bring together representatives from a wide variety of Bristol South community organisations, the City Council, Bristol South & West Primary Care Trust and United Bristol Healthcare Trust, as well as Dawn Primarolo MP.

There is still time for representatives of community organisations to apply if they wish to attend. Simply phone Dawn's office on 0117 909 0063.
