Primarolo 'most concerned' at Post Office closure plan

Local MP supports Bedminster Down residents

Bristol South MP, Dawn Primarolo, is backing local residents' efforts to save Bishopsworth Road Post Office from closure.

In a letter to the Post Office's National Consultation Team, Ms Primarolo has expressed her concern at the proposed closure, explaining that it would cause 'very real inconvenience' to many of her constituents.

"I am particularly worried that older and disabled residents who depend on the Bishopsworth Road branch will find it difficult to reach the suggested alternatives", Dawn adds. "It's not just that they are further away; the Post Office describes the routes to them as 'undulating'. Anyone living locally knows that's more than a bit of an understatement!"

The letter, sent a few days ago, also asks the Post Office to look again at their customer figures. "They say this branch should close because customer numbers are falling. I have urged them to look again at the facts, to check that it really is as under-used as they suggest", Dawn concludes.
