Make Poverty History

Bristol South MP receives petitions

Last Friday (4 February), local MP and Paymaster General Dawn Primarolo, received petitions in support of the Make Poverty History campaign. The presentation took place as Finance Ministers from the G7 met to discuss the issue.

Commenting afterwards, Dawn said: "Everyone has a role to play in pushing this crucial issue up the political agenda, so I was glad to see that so many people are backing this campaign".

Dawn has been doing her bit to ensure Bristol South residents' views are heard, too, by presenting her own petition to Gordon Brown only a few weeks ago.

"Gordon Brown has described 2005 as 'a make or break year for development'. By putting the issue at the top of the G7 agenda, and securing agreement on further debt relief, I believe we have already made some good progress", Dawn continued. "It's essential we keep up the pressure over the coming weeks to ensure we bring about lasting change".
