£10m Lib Dem stealth tax uncovered

Labour has uncovered figures that show the Lib Dems have been overcharging Bristol taxpayers - to the tune of £10m.

"They don't mind telling you how much they dislike the council tax", Labour councillor, John Bees, explains. "But they seem quite happy to use it to take £10m more of your hard-earned cash than they really need".

Every year, the City Council sets the council tax, having considered how much it needs to spend on local services. Over the past three years, it has collected £10m more than it had projected - but rather than passing this on to council taxpayers, they have chosen to hang onto the money themselves.

"Compare this to when Labour froze Bristol's council tax for three years", John Bees concludes.
