The Prime Minister is head of the UK Government and is ulimately responsible for the policy and decisions of government. Environment, Food & Rural Affairs The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs' core purpose is to improve the curent and future quality of life. The purpose of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office is to work for the United Kingdom's interests in a safe, just and prosperous world. The overall purpose of the Department of Health is to help improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in England. This is done by leading and supporting NHS and social care organisations so they can provide fair, high quality services that offer real choice for patients, as well as best value for taxpayers. The Home Office is the government department responsible for ensuring we live in a safe, just and tolerant society by putting public protection at the heart of its activities. It is responsible for the police in England and Wales, national security, the justice system and immigration. The Department for International Development is part of the UK Government that manages Britain's aid to poor countries and works to get rid of extreme poverty. The Department for Trade & Industry is responsible for trade, business, employees, consumers, science and energy, so is in a unique position to contribute to the challenge of globalisation - enabling business and employees to prosper in the UK. The Department for Transport's objective is to oversee the delivery of a reliable, safe and secure transport system that response efficiently to the needs of individuals and business whilst safeguarding our environment. The Treasury is the United Kingdom's economics and finance ministry. It is responsible for formulating and implementing the Government's financial and economic policy. Its aim is to raise the rate of sustainable growth, and achieve rising prosperity and a better quality of life with economic and employment opportunities for all.
