Dawn Primarolo, Council Leader Helen Holland and Education Executive Member Derek Pickup were on hand to join local schoolchildren in a topping out ceremony at Bridge Learning Campus. The Campus will bring together Hartcliffe Community Engineering College, Teyfant Community School, parts of New Fosseway Special School and the City of Bristol College onto one site.
Commenting, Dawn said:
“The days of schools opening at 8.30 in the morning and locking their doors at 4pm are long gone. We now, quite rightly, see schools as an integral part of our communities, providing educational and vocational support and opportunities for all residents. The campus will provide a fantastic opportunity for learning for all and will, I am sure, be invaluable to local people. It will be fantastic to return for the official opening in September.”
Helen added:
“We first discussed a campus in the early 1990s and now, finally, we’re within touching distance of having this wonderful centre in the heart of Hartcliffe. So many people have worked so hard to get us where we are today, and it was great to see that their efforts are bearing fruit. Following the opening of the redeveloped Symes Avenue, there’s a real sense of optimism in Hartcliffe at the moment. We’ve got to build on that, and work with the Campus as it strives to become a centre of learning and vocational excellence.”
