Bristol MPs secure urgent meeting with Minister

Drug Action Team tops agenda

Following reports in the national press and Evening Post that Bristol Drug Action Team is failing to reduce the city's drug problem, local MPs Dawn Primarolo, Jean Corston, Valerie Davey and Doug Naysmith have met with Bob Ainsworth, the Home Office Minister responsible for anti-drugs co-ordination.

After the meeting, which took place on Thursday 4 June, Dawn Primarolo spoke on behalf of the four MPs. She said:

"We were so deeply concerned at the situation that has arisen with the Drug Action Team that we requested an urgent meeting with the Home Office Minister. At the meeting there was an honest and frank discussion about the problems in Bristol, together with an appraisal of what needs to be done to take things forward. We are hopeful that the situation will improve in the coming months, but we will continue to monitor the situation closely".
