Working hard all year round for South Bristol
Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, has expressed her disappointment that Government will go ahead with the controversial badger cull. A motion to stop the pilot trials in Gloucestershire and Somerset was defeated by 299 votes to 250. Dawn has been a consistent opponent of the badger cull and has been contacted by many local residents about this issue in recent weeks.
Speaking after the House of Commons vote on this issue Dawn said:
“It is very disappointing that the Government have chosen to ignore the scientific evidence that a cull is unlikely to contribute to the control of TB in cattle, has now been shown to cost more than vaccination and in the short term risks spreading the disease further.
Instead we must have a science-led response to the control and reduction of TB in cattle that protects both cattle and badgers.”
