Badger Culling

Dawn Primarolo MP is opposed to Government plans to introduce badger culling.

In Government, Labour undertook the most extensive study of badger control which concluded that 'badger culling is unlikely to contribute effectively to the control of cattle TB in Britain'.

Commenting Dawn said:

"Bovine TB is a terrible disease and last year alone 25,000 cattle were slaughtered. The toll on farmers and the rural community is immense so it is clear that bovine TB needs to be addressed.

But last year the new Government cut trials of badger vaccination to just one project near Stroud.

They must return to Labour's evidence-based approach to dealing with bovine TB – the science simply does not support the current proposals for culling badgers."
