Working hard all year round for South Bristol
Christmas cheer is returning to the Duckmoor Road flats in Ashton after the Council reversed a decision to remove the festive lights. The flats showcase an array of colourful lights every year, all paid for and put up by
the residents themselves.
This year, the Council removed the lights without discussion, to satisfy health and safety concerns. Nobody had ever objected, or indeed been hurt, by the lights before. Labour councillor for Southville Sean Beynon immediately contacted the Councillor in charge of housing to ask him to reverse this crazy decision.
Commenting, Sean said: “The Christmas lights in Duckmoor Road are a tradition, and really brighten up the street. I’m sure this decision was taken with the best of intentions, but it shows no common sense. Thankfully, the Council have decided to think again and have been working with the residents to get the display up and running again.”
