Clean Air Campaign

Helen Holland, Leader of the Labour Group and Councillor for Whitchurch Park, joined Barry Gardiner MP, Thangham Debbonaire PPC for Bristol West and others to launch a new Clean Air for Bristol Campaign.

Levels of Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) in our city regularly break legal limits, the most significant source is traffic fumes, from cars, buses and other vehicles.

The campaign is demanding:

  • The Mayor to put pressure on central government for more support to re-fit our polluting buses with low emission engines.

  • Bristol Green Capital 2015 to focus their attention on cleaning up our air – a real result for Bristolians – pushing for funding for re-fitting buses, supporting the alternatives, giving people real choice.

  • Bus companies, car clubs, cycling organisations, urban planners and health researchers to work together to end this dangerous pollution by 2020.

  • Everyone who has a car to cut out one journey in ten and use an alternative – walk, bus, cycle. It will help us all to breathe easier and keep us fitter.
