Dawn Responds To The Situation in Gaza

Dawn Primarolo has urgently contacted the Foreign Secretary following the news that one of her constituents, Mr Cliff Hanley, was onboard the Mavi Marmara, the ship boarded by Israeli forces.

Commenting on the incident, Dawn said:

“I was very concerned to hear that Mr Hanley was on board, and that attempts to contact him have so far proved unsuccessful.  I know how committed he is to campaigning for the Palestinian people and ensuring that people in Gaza have the essentials needed to survive.

"I have emailed the Foreign Secretary, to ask that he makes urgent enquires with the Israeli authorities.  It is absolutely vital that the Government can account for all British citizens who were on board the Mavi Marmara.

"The whole situation is very worrying, and I was shocked and saddened to hear about the loss of life.  There must be a full investigation into the Israeli actions which led to this terrible incident.

"The continuing humanitarian suffering in Gaza is completely unjustified.  I will continue to press the Government to do what it can to work towards a genuine, two-state solution.  Acts of violence like this help nobody.”
