Dawn visits Sainsbury’s Ashton store

Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, today visited Sainsbury’s on Winterstoke Road in Ashton to hear about the store’s latest fundraising success story.

During her visit to the busy supermarket in the run up to Christmas, Dawn met Store Manager, Lyndon Brown, and learned that the store had raised over £13,000 towards the newly refurbished Adolescent Unit at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children through its support of the Teenage Cancer Trust Charity.

The fundraising efforts were lead by Sainsbury’s staff member, Di Herbert, who works on the checkout department of the Winterstoke Road store.  Dawn took the opportunity to personally congratulate Di on her hard work.

Speaking after the visit, Dawn said:

“At this time of year we are particularly likely to spare a thought for those less fortunate than ourselves and it was really heartening to hear today about the impressive charity fundraising activities undertaken by staff at Sainsbury’s Winterstoke Road store.  Supermarkets are well placed to make a contribution to their local communities and I’m pleased that this store is doing its bit to support Bristol charities and those in need.”
