Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, visited the Tobacco Factory Theatre in Southville yesterday to hear about the Theatre’s latest projects and future plans.

The Tobacco Factory Theatre is a popular community venue with a full programme of arts events, drawing audiences from both the local area and further afield.  During her visit to the former tobacco factory building on Raleigh Road, Dawn was given a behind the scenes tour as well as seeing the Theatre’s performance spaces – including the nearby Brewery Theatre on North Street which opened in 2009.

Dawn also had the opportunity to see the Theatre’s recently installed roof-top solar panels which supplies 35% of the Theatre’s energy.

Speaking after the visit, Dawn said:

“I was delighted to be invited to see the Tobacco Factory Theatre’s facilities and to hear about upcoming shows and other community projects.  It’s amazing to see how the Theatre has developed in recent years to become a real hub of the community with such a wide variety of activities on offer.   The Tobacco Factory Theatre is also doing its bit to help the environment with the new renewable energy system which is not only a great investment for the future but also helps to keep carbon emissions down.”
