Working hard all year round for South Bristol
Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, has expressed disappointment that two community organisations in her constituency have lost out on vital funding following a recent commissioning process for substance misuse treatment and support services in Bristol.
Knowle West based KWADS and Hartcliffe based HAWKS have both been unsuccessful in securing ongoing financial support from Safer Bristol to provide services to people affected by alcohol and drug misuse.
“I find it extremely disappointing that Safer Bristol has chosen not to provide funding to KWADS or HAWKS. They are both highly valued community organisations providing essential support to individuals and families affected by drug and alcohol misuse. Each organisation has specialist knowledge and skills and their work is hugely important in providing much-needed help to people whose lives are impacted by substance misuse.
Without the Safer Bristol funding I know both KWADS and HAWKS will need alternative sources of support. It’s essential that we don’t lose the specialism and expertise of these two organisations with their wealth of experience and community knowledge - this would be a great loss to Bristol South and the wider city.
I have written to Safer Bristol and the Mayor of Bristol, raising concerns about the new commissioning process and the decision to withdraw support from these two Bristol South based organisations.”
