Fulford Road Post Office re-opening

Local effort secures crucial government grant

Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, will be celebrating the relocation of the popular Fulford Road (Hartcliffe) Post Office to new custom-built premises at 103 Fulford Road. The official re-opening will take place at 9:30am on Monday 5 April.

At one point, there was a real possibility that the transfer of services would be delayed, or indeed stopped, due to problems in raising the £80,000 needed to provide new facilities. After pressure from Dawn Primarolo, a substantial part of the funding - the maximum grant available (£50,000) - was secured from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister under its Urban Deprived Post Offices Fund.

The new sub-postmaster, Mr Kamlesh Patel, says: "I am really pleased that the transfer of the Post Office has been successful and I am looking forward to serving the people of Hartcliffe for many years to come. Dawn Primarolo and her office have been really helpful in assisting me to secure the government funding essential to this project".

Dawn Primarolo says: "I am delighted to have been invited by Mr Patel to officially re-open this vital facility for the people of Hartcliffe. Mr Patel's tenacity, combined with the government grants I have helped to secure, have ensured that this service is not lost to the community".
