Health & Social Care Bill

Dawn Primarolo MP has made her opposition to the Health and Social Care Bill very clear.

In a letter to constituents she wrote:

“Years of increased investment under the last Labour Government improved the NHS dramatically following the neglect of the 1980s and 1990s.As a Health Minister in that Labour Government I saw at first hand the improvements both here in Bristol South and elsewhere. But the high-cost and high-risk reorganisation proposed in the Health & Social Care Bill will destroy the NHS as a national public service and could see hospitals go bankrupt.

By voting for the changes the Tories and the Lib Dems have ignored the advice of healthcare professionals, independent experts and the views of thousands of NHS patients. Speaking in Parliament the Prime Minister claimed the support of doctors, however Dr Clare Gerada, chairwoman of the Royal College of GPs said that the proposals could result in an “increase in damaging competition, an increase in health inequalities, and massively increased costs”.

Once again this Government has failed to listen.

Be assured that I will continue to fight to save the NHS from this Tory/Lib Dem Government.”
