Housing Zone for south Bristol

Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, has cautiously welcomed the announcement of a Housing Zone for south Bristol.

In February Dawn wrote in support of the application by Bristol City Council to the Department for Communities and Local Government to designate seven sites in south Bristol as a Housing Zone.

Dawn said:

“Bristol is in the grip of a housing crisis and efforts to accelerate the building of more homes, particularly affordable homes, are always welcome. Without significant new home construction in Bristol South many more families in my constituency will suffer the indignity of homelessness or the day-to-day misery of poor housing.

“All of the sites are on brownfield land and have been previously identified for housing, it is now up to Bristol City Council to get on and make sure the homes we need are built. It is however essential that any new development is both genuinely sustainable and has community support.”
