Ed Balls, the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, paid a visit to the Bridge Learning Campus in Hartcliffe today. Ed was joined by Labour’s MP for Bristol South Dawn Primarolo and campaigner for Whitchurch Park Ed Bramall on a tour of the new buildings, where he met pupils and staff.
The Secretary of State particularly wanted to visit the Bridge, where exam results are amongst the best in the country. The Campus is one of the first in the country to offer ‘all-through’ education for children and young people aged 3-18.
During his tour of the £40 million Campus, Ed and Dawn discussed school life with students, were filmed for a BBC young-people’s project, attended an impromptu dance performance and met with the senior management team.
After the visit, Dawn said:
“I was really keen for Ed to come to the Bridge. What’s happening here is absolutely fantastic. Ed was only due to make a flying visit in the Campus. In the end, he was so interested in what he saw that he stayed for over two hours. The new facilities are great – of course – but what’s most impressive is the energy and commitment shown by everyone who is involved in the Campus. The improving exam results reflect a new confidence in the school and in our community.”
