Dawn Primarolo MP's latest response to constituents regarding Palestine:
Thank you for your recent email regarding yesterday’s debate in Westminster Hall led by my Labour colleague Grahame Morris MP. Regrettably my other duties as Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons meant I was unable to attend the debate.
In his speech Mr Morris referred to the landmark vote of MPs on 13 October to recognise the Palestinian state, which as you may know was supported by Labour leader Ed Miliband MP. He also highlighted the 200,000 illegal settlers occupying Palestinian land, the restrictions on access to Temple Mount and the ongoing denial of Palestinian rights.
Many other MPs spoke in the debate, including a very powerful contribution from Sir Gerald Kaufmann MP in which he described the “fear and despair among Palestinians in Jerusalem”. If you have time you may wish to read the full account of the debate at www.parliament.uk
If there is to be a lasting peace both sides must return to the negotiating table as soon as possible and restart talks. The only route to lasting security and justice for both the Israeli and Palestinian people is through a negotiated two state solution.
Please do not hesitate to contact me again about this or any other matter
