Religious Persecution

Dawn Primarolo MP's response to constituents regarding Open Doors campaign on religious persecution:

"Thank you for you postcard regarding the global persecution of Christians and the meeting in Westminster on 20 January, which regrettably I was unable to attend due to my other duties in the House of Commons.

The persecution of any individual because of their faith is entirely unacceptable regardless of what that faith may be or where in the world the individual may live. You may be aware that in recent times Ed Miliband has condemned the imprisonment for religious reasons of people in Sudan and elsewhere.

I am aware of the very detailed work undertaken by Open Doors in highlighting this issue, their World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian provides details of appalling abuses of basic human rights worldwide. In my view it is essential that the UK government continues to raise concerns about religious freedom, in particular with our trading partners such as China.

Please do not hesitate to contact me again if I can be of further help with this or any other matter
Yours sincerely

Dawn Primarolo
Labour MP for Bristol South"
