St Catherine's Development, Bedminster

st_catherines.jpgDawn Primarolo MP's submission to Bristol City Council regarding the St Catherine's Development, Bedminster:

“There is a widely recognised need for more housing in south Bristol, especially affordable housing.  The supply of new homes must increase dramatically if current and future demand is to be met.

A high quality, sustainable residential development on the St Catherine’s Place site has the potential to provide some of this much needed housing.  In addition, regeneration of the site could have a significant and positive impact on the East Street shopping area. However I acknowledge and sympathise with some concerns that have been raised regarding the height and mass of this proposal.

Bristol City Council Core Strategy policy BCS17 requires the provision of up to 30% affordable housing, subject to scheme viability, in large scale developments. I am therefore disappointed that as a result of the Independent Assessment Bristol City Council officers conclude that the “proposed development would not be able to provide any affordable housing.”

If the Council’s assessment is justified and without any commitment to affordable housing I would be unable to support this application”
