Supporting IFAW’s “ivory surrender” campaign

Dawn at IFAW campaign launch

This week, Dawn Primarolo, Labour MP for Bristol South, backed the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)’s ivory surrender campaign by attending the launch event at the House of Commons.

At the launch Dawn met Rowan Healey of the Metropolitan Police Wildlife Crime Unit, one of the many organisations who are backing the campaign.

IFAW is calling on members of the public to send in any unwanted items of ivory they may have to ensure they do not end up back on the commercial market.  Polling shows that almost four million British residents are owners of ivory.

Speaking after the event Dawn said, “It’s very sad that the illegal trade in ivory persists.  I would encourage people to back IFAW’s campaign for greater protection of elephants.”

Anyone who would like to donate ivory to the surrender can email or call 020 7587 6709. Further information about the campaign can be found on IFAW’s website at:
