Working hard all year round for South Bristol

The City of Bristol College opened their doors this morning to offer a sneak preview of Hengrove Park’s new Skills Academy. Having taken the keys to the £30 million facility in June, staff have been busily preparing for the arrival of the first students in September.
Labour MP for Bristol South Dawn Primarolo, along with Lord Mayor Colin Smith and local Labour Councillors Helen Holland, Sean Beynon and Derek Pickup, enjoyed a tour of the Academy’s kitchens, workshops, salons and classrooms.
Following the event, Dawn said:
“When the Tories and Lib Dems ask where the last Labour Government spent their money, they should take a look at the stunning regeneration of Hengrove Park. The Skills Academy will provide invaluable opportunities for Bristol South residents. For too long, our part of the city has lagged behind in education and training opportunities. Now, thanks to funding secured by Labour, we’ve got this brilliant new facility in the heart of our community.
"The Skills Academy is the first part of the Hengrove Park redevelopment to open. Building work on the hospital – signed off by Labour Ministers in the new year – is well underway, and work is set to begin on the Leisure Centre, which was also given the green light by Labour in the spring. "
