Vote for Bob Campaign

Dawn Primarolo MP's response to constituents regarding the Vote for Bob Campaign:

Dear Constituent

Thank you for your recent email regarding the RSPB's 'Vote for Bob' campaign.

The last few years have been very challenging for those of us who believe in protecting Britain's wildlife and natural environment. The present Government has sought to dismantle the genuine achievements of the last Labour Government, particularly on animal welfare. They are still committed to hold a vote on the repeal of the hunting ban, tried to privatise our forests, and attempted to undermine essential environmental legislation which has given us cleaner beaches, better air quality, and protected our wildlife.

As you may be aware, Labour are committed to introducing a more fundamental change in environment policy. We will continue to look at whole ecosystems rather than focusing on individual species or habitats. The UK's National Ecosystem Assessment, which we commissioned, has established that 30 per cent of the UK's ecosystems are in decline and many others only just holding their own. This holistic approach will define our policy to protect Britain's natural environment, right to roam and wildlife for future generations in the Labour manifesto for next year’s General Election.

Please do not hesitate to contact me again about this or any other issue.

Yours sincerely

Dawn Primarolo
