Speaking following the visit by Lib Dem Minister Stephen Williams MP to Knowle West Children’s Centre, Dawn Primarolo, MP for Bristol South, said:
“The Knowle West Children’s Centre does outstanding work and is highly valued by the local community.
“But voters in Bristol know better than to believe the promises of this Government. Across the city they have simply failed to deliver on their promise of childcare for disadvantaged 2-year olds. A Freedom of Information request has revealed we are a whopping 578 places short.
“Their wider record on policies for families is dismal, from trebling tuition fees to the bedroom tax. Cuts supported by Mr Williams mean that there are now over 600 fewer Sure Start children’s centres nationwide.
“The people of Knowle West showed what they think of the Lib Dems at the local elections in May, where the Lib Dem came fifth.”
